My current research activities are geared toward studying digital platforms and the ways in which people incorporate them into their daily lives. Together with my friend and colleague Emiliano Treré we are conducting a research project on forms of Algorithmic Resistance, that is, the tactics used by people to resist, or negotiate the power of digital platforms in their daily lives.

Our book The Algorithmic Weapons of the Weak. Power, Agency and Resistance in the Platform Society, will be out in 2023 for MIT Press.

I am an associate professor in Sociology of Culture and Communication at the Department of Social, Political and Cognitive Sciences at the University of Siena, where I took a PhD in Communication, Media and the Public Sphere in 2008, with a dissertation on media as ‘home-making’ tools for migrants.

This is my webpage at the University of Siena. I have a background in radio writing and production. I started doing radio as a student at the University of Siena. Between 2004 and 2019 I worked as a freelance radio producer for Radio Svizzera Italiana, Rai Radio2, Radio24, Rai Radio3.
